In loving memory of Kate Loftin
November 10,1981-June 27,2006 Lauren Kate Loftin passed away on June 27, 2006,
of complications resulting from her long battle with Friedrich's Ataxia. She
is survived by her parents Bob and Judy Hill Loftin, of Bethlehem, Barrow
County, Georgia; brother Will T. Loftin and his fiancee, Jenne Plymill, both
of Atlanta; sister, Marie Looney of Bethlehem; paternal grandmother, Vera Still
Loftin; uncles and aunts, Mark S. and Anita Loftin, of Marietta, and Terry
and Nancy Feltman of Griffin. After being named Ms. Junior Wheelchair Georgia
in 2003, she remained active in the Ms. Georgia Wheelchair Pageant events.
She was also active in the National Ataxia Foundation its Georgia and Atlanta
Support Groups. Born in Warner Robins, Georgia, she was raised in Bethlehem,
attended Bethlehem Elementary, Winder-Barrow Middle School, and graduated
from Winder-Barrow High School in 2000. She attended Athens Technical College
completing her internship with The Barrow County News and graduating in 2005
with a degree in marketing. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6
to 9 on Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Sat.
July 1, Smith Memory Chapel, Pastor Arlene Smith will officiate. A private
burial will be held at Carter Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family
requests that healthy donations be sent to the Friedrich's Ataxia Research
Alliance, P.O. Box 1424, Williamsville, NY 14231-1424; National Ataxia
Foundation, 2600 Fernbrook Lane, Suite 119, Minneapolis, MN 55447-4752; and
The Emory Ataxia Center, 1365-A Clifton Road, NE, Room A-1217, Department
of Neurology, Atlanta, Georgia 30322.
