Letter from the Wishes 4 Me Founder

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As most of you may know that I am the founder of the Wishes 4 Me Foundation and a resident of Flowers Crossing Subdivision.  The foundation was formed to assist people with disabilities.  My children, Robin and Stephen, were both diagnosed with “Freidriech’s Ataxia” in 1996.  It is a progressive neuromuscular disease.    Robin and Stephen were the inspiration of the foundation.  As of today, we have assisted many individuals in the State of Georgia with disabilities.  We have 2 houses in Lawrenceville for physically challenged adults.  Our houses have provided a safe, adaptable and enjoyable group living style for individuals who are at risk of being in a nursing home.

Did you know??

·         20% of the population has some form of disability

·         There are over 40,000 people being served in nursing homes in Georgia.  Over 7000 of those being served are under the age of 55.

·         The main reason for young people to be in nursing home is financial, adaptable environment and knowledge to manage their care.  The foundation has found a way to break down these barriers.

·         You can help by making a financial contribution, volunteering your time, donating your deactivated cell phones or your empty printer cartridges, using www.goodsearch.com instead of Google as your search engine and many other ways….

·         www.goodsearch.com – just select Wishes 4 Me Foundation as your charity of choice when you want to shop online or search a topic on the internet

·         Wishes 4 Me Foundation is having their 4 annual walk on April 25, 2009 at  Shorty Howell Park in Duluth.  We would love for you to be a part of this event.  See the details at www.wishes4me.org.

There are no donations too small.  We need all of your support.

For those of you who knew my daughter, Robin, she loved living in one of our homes.  Robin was 24 years old when she passed away this past November.  She was such an inspiration to so many people.  She loved her ability to live in the community.  Before Robin’s death, she was at a level of care which would have required her to be in a nursing home without the Wishes 4 Me Foundation and our wonderful supporters.   Steve lives in our men’s home.  He has embraced his new home.  Steve has learned a lot over the past couple of years one of which is that he can still be a part of the community with his disability.  Steve and Robin have never been shut-ins because of their disability.  Steve volunteers as a tutor twice a week in an after school program at the First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville.

Your support in Helping Us Help Others is greatly appreciated.  If you would like to make a donation, feel free to go to www.wishes4me.org or contact me at Lynn.Robinette@comcast.net.

Thank you again for your support.
